Staying Motivated with Pole Fitness Training
Winter can be a real struggle, and for polers, it’s no different. The shorter days, freezing temps, and the pull of cosy blankets make it way too easy to skip your practice. But don’t let the seasonal blues kill your vibe. With the right mindset, routines, and tools, you can keep your energy up and your passion for pole strong all winter long
Dress for Success (and Warmth!)
The right clothing is essential for staying comfortable and focused during winter training.
Start with layers. Keep warm during your warm-up with a cosy hoodie or long-sleeve top. Leg warmers and knee pads are perfect for protecting your joints. Our Kedeyahko Don’t Touch Hoodie is ideal for this season. It’s vibrant enough to brighten grey days, and its powerful message, "Don’t Touch My Hair," resonates with empowerment and individuality while keeping you snug in the studio.
Choose grip-friendly fabrics because cold weather can mess with your grip. Go for polewear that gives you the perfect balance of skin exposure and coverage. If you’re a tricks queen who can’t stand the cold, try grip leggings. They’ll keep you warm and secure while nailing those pole moves that require leg grip.
If pole dance is your passion, our ambassador Destiny swears by leg warmers and joggers during the colder months. They keep you cosy, protect your knees, and ensure you’re serving looks.
Don’t skip the Warm Up
If you’re anything like our co-founder, Queen of Booms, who’s infamous for rolling into class late and skipping the warm-up, stop that ish RIGHT NOW!. Especially in winter, warming up is non-negotiable because your body needs extra time to prep for all that movement.
Get your blood flowing with some light cardio, dynamic stretches, or a little groove to wake up those muscles.
Protect yourself by taking your time. Cold muscles are more prone to injuries, so don’t skip this step. Give your body the love it needs to loosen up.
Set the vibe and your intentions during your warm-up. Use this time to focus on your goals, whether it’s mastering a new move or just enjoying the flow of your session.
Staying Motivated
Keeping your motivation up during winter can be a challenge, but trust us, it’s not impossible.
Visualise your success. Serenity H. Brown’s go-to tip for staying motivated is to use your journey to the studio as time to visualise the new trick you’re going to master in class. Picturing yourself nailing it builds excitement and gives you that confidence boost before you even step into the studio.
Stay focused on your goals. Miss Swoon suggests making a list of the moves you’re working on and sticking to it. “Don’t get distracted too much by Instagram,” she advises. Staying focused on your own progress is key to seeing real results.
Try something new. Winter is the perfect time to switch things up and explore other styles. As Miss Swoon says, “I like to do other things like chair choreo or flexibility training, mostly because it’s cold, and I can keep my clothes on!”
Or, take a page out of our co-founder Eva Dvah’s book. She decided to step completely away from pole last year and took up roller skating to keep things rolling in a fun, fresh way. Who says you can’t mix it up and keep it interesting?
Set Small, Achievable Goals
Winter training is the perfect time to focus on the little things that make a big difference.
Break it down. Don’t stress over perfecting an entire routine. Instead, work on sharpening individual moves or transitions. Taking it step by step makes progress feel manageable and less overwhelming.
Track your progress. Keep a journal or record your sessions to see how far you’ve come. Watching your growth can be the motivation you need to keep going. Celebrate small wins. Every spin, or pose you get right is a win. Don’t downplay the little victories, they all add up and deserve their moment of recognition. Post them on the Gram, send them into the group chat or; just have a little victory happy dance with yourself! If you're too humble to celebrate yourself, then slide into the @Kedeyahko DM's and send your video to us. We will surely be your hype Kweens and share it with our Tribe!
Turn up the tunes!
Music is the secret sauce that can take your pole session from meh to magic and put you in the best mood. Load up your playlist with some upbeat Afrobeats, smooth R&B, and energy-packed pop tracks to get you moving and feeling yourself. The right tunes can turn your practice into a whole vibe and brighten up even the gloomiest winter days.
